How does it work?
We’ve designed our advice support programme to be straightforward, flexible, and responsive to your needs. Here’s what to expect:
1. Get in Touch
Reach out to us to discuss your current situation, the type of support you’re looking for, and how we can help. Whether you need short-term support or something more long-term, we’ll guide you through your options.

Once we understand your needs, we’ll allocate one of our experienced associate advisers who’s best suited to your context. They’ll bring relevant knowledge and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
3. Onboarding
Your adviser will be onboarded into your organisation or team. This includes IT setup, access to key systems, and a clear understanding of your policies, procedures, and expectations, so they can hit the ground running.
4. Getting to Work
Now the real work begins! Your adviser will begin delivering support in line with your priorities; whether that’s advising students, managing caseloads, or contributing to strategy and service improvement.
5. Wrapping Up or Extending
As the contract nears its end, you can choose to extend support if needed. If not, your adviser will ensure a smooth handover, so nothing gets lost and continuity is maintained.

I’m Jamie. I’ve spent over twelve years working within the Students’ Union sector, supporting hundreds of students through everything from Fitness to Practise and Fitness to Study procedures to academic appeals, disciplinaries and wellbeing concerns. I started my career in a Students’ Union, focusing on equality, diversity and inclusion, and that foundation has shaped everything I’ve done since.
In recent years, I’ve moved from front-line academic advice into people management and representation, leading teams that empower student leaders and influence policy across higher education. I care deeply about ensuring students are heard and supported, particularly when they’re at their most vulnerable, and I bring a calm, empathetic and pragmatic approach to even the most complex cases. I find empowering students deeply motivating and look forward to returning to frontline casework.

Testimonials
“Alkhemy’s associate advisor worked with us at a time when we urgently needed some extra advice hours in the team. Their experience working in many institutions meant they got to grips with Edinburgh’s policies and regulations very quickly. We were really impressed at how soon they was able to adapt to our delivery model ( and IT!) and start to advise students. They had a lovely calm and cheerful manner so was a wonderful energy to have in the team at a time when we were feeling stretched. We would not hesitate to use Alkhemy again.“
Clair Halliday – Acting Manager, Edinburgh University Students’ Association
“At a particularly busy time in our academic cycle during which we have gaps within our advice service we reached out to Alkhemy for support from their advice service provision. From our initial correspondence, to the turnaround on our query and delivery of the offer, Alkhemy exceeded our expectations. Alkhemy’s advisors were kind, supportive and were able to integrate with our advice service within the Guild following a one day induction. Over a 3-week period, Alkhemy worked alongside our advice service to ensure student queries and issues surrounding housing, financial, wellbeing and academic were responded to within our expected response windows. We appreciate all the work Alkhemy did for us at such a critical time whilst also providing consistent quality throughout.”
Scott Dawson, Student Voice and Representation Manager – Birmingham Guild of Students
“Working with Alkhemy and their associate advisors have ensured we can continue to deliver our advice service during a period of limited staffing and whilst inducting new staff members. They have proved invaluable in increasing our capacity at this time and made sure we were up to date on the cases they were taking on, whilst requiring minimal support from our internal team. Working with them has been a no-brainer and we would do it again with no hesitation!“
