What is Advice Flex?

Your service, our capacity

Advice Flex is Alkhemy’s capacity partner programme for students’ unions with existing advice services. It is not a replacement for your team and it is not an independent service sitting alongside yours. It is additional capacity, drawn from our experienced adviser pool, embedded directly into your service and working under your brand, your systems, and your processes.

When your team is stretched, short-staffed, or facing a period of higher than usual demand, Advice Flex gives you a dependable, experienced resource that slots into how you already work. Your students do not notice the difference. Your advice manager stays in control. We carry the caseload you need us to carry.

Unlike our Independent Student Advice Hub, Advice Flex covers the full range of casework your service handles, academic, housing, money, welfare, and everything else, because we are working as part of your team rather than as a separate specialist offer.

Who is it for?

Built for services that already exist

Advice Flex is designed for students’ unions that already have an advice service and need flexible, reliable capacity on top of what they have. It is not for services starting from scratch.

You have a vacancy you are struggling to fill and need cover while you recruit, or while you decide whether to recruit at all.

You have a team member on maternity, parental, or long-term sick leave and need to maintain service levels without a lengthy recruitment process.

Your caseload peaks at certain points in the year and your team cannot absorb the volume without additional support.

You have a small team where one absence creates an immediate capacity crisis and you want a standing arrangement that gives you somewhere to turn.

You want to add remote and digital capacity alongside your in-person team without adding headcount or employment liability.

How it works

Embedded from day one

Amy, Alkhemy’s Managing Director, manages the induction into your service, briefs and supports the associate advisers, and acts as the operational link between your advice manager and our team throughout the arrangement.

You contact us and we agree coverage

We talk through what you need, how long for, and at what level of capacity. You choose your tier and your duration. We confirm the arrangement and get started.

Amy is inducted into your service

Amy learns how your service works: your triage process, your case management system, your institutional context, your team structure, and your way of working. She is given an organisational email address accessible to the whole Alkhemy team during their shifts.

Amy briefs and inducts the associate advisers

She briefs the associates who will be working on your caseload so they understand your context, your regulations, your institutional relationships, and your way of working before they pick up a case.

Our team becomes part of your team

Associates work directly within your service. They take cases from your queue, correspond with students from your email address, use your case management system, and operate as your advisers. Your advice manager directs work at an operational level. Amy remains the bridge between your team and ours.

Capacity scales across our whole operation

We do not ring-fence one person to your service. The capacity we provide draws on our full adviser pool. When demand increases across the sector, we scale our operation as a whole, which means your service benefits from that resilience without you having to manage it.

Amy is Alkhemy’s Managing Director and the named lead across all Advice Flex partnerships. She manages the induction into your service, briefs and supports the associate advisers, and acts as the operational link between your advice manager and our team. She becomes a functional member of your team for the duration of the arrangement, reachable by your staff, familiar with your systems, and accountable to your service standards.

Three tiers, five durations

Choose the level of weekly capacity that suits your service and the length of commitment that works for your situation. The longer you commit, the better the weekly rate. All prices are plus VAT.

All prices are plus VAT. Induction and setup is included in all commitments of four weeks or more. For one-week engagements, a setup contribution of £150 plus VAT applies.
